Country garden wedding breakfast
Style of event: Wedding reception
Location: The Princess of Wales Conservatory and The Orangery, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
Client brief: Create a stylish wedding breakfast in keeping with the stunning surroundings of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
How Richmond met the brief:
The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew are a beautiful setting for a wedding. With our Bride and Groom having chosen The Princess of Wales Conservatory for the drinks reception and The Orangery for their first meal as a married couple, we wanted to make sure we showcased the surroundings to their full extent.
The drinks reception was an elegant affair with sparkling wine, cheese straws and olives served as guests arrived at The Princess of Wales Conservatory on the Kew Explorer, a land train which provided them with the opportunity to see and experience the exceptional sites at Kew Gardens. The conservatory recreates 10 climatic zones with Madagascan baobab trees, orchids from Central America and carnivorous plants from Asia.
Before guests were called to dinner, they were all gathered in front of The Orangery, a beautiful glasshouse designed by Sir William Chambers in 1761 and also the largest classical style building in the Gardens, for a group photo.
We planned the décor and style of the wedding breakfast as a country garden with vintage accents. The Orangery was dressed with rustic natural wood chairs with cream seat pads, simple white linen, and each table held an array of country garden flowers in different mismatched antique-style vases. The tables were decorated with small trinkets and a variety of traditional sweets for guests to nibble. We placed amber up lighters throughout the venue to create a warm atmosphere and illuminate the room and two giant palm trees formed the entrance to the bar and dancing area.
